Save Water Like it or not the
conservation era is upon us. Conservation includes our most basic resource
“WATER”. Plano and North Texas have a booming population growth with
no new sources of water. The federal EPA has blocked the construction of
every new reservoir that the North Texas Municipal Water District had
planned for our growth. Therefore, we better start using our water as
efficiently as possible. Over the past
few years “ET controllers or Smart controllers” have been introduced.
However, since they work based on historical weather data and most are
difficult to operate, their success has been limited. Fortunately, it has
not taken long for real solutions to arrive. The most effective method for
efficient water use in a landscape is obviously soil moisture sensors.
Currently there are affordable sensors on the market. The best in our
opinion is the Base Line Water Tec S 100 (soil moisture sensors). This
product can be added to almost any existing system as well as on new
systems. Once installed and calibrated the Base Line really needs no
further attention. This one simple addition cuts landscape water usage on
average by 50%, easily paying for itself in 1 to 2 years depending on the
size of your yard. The other method of
saving water is in the actual application of the water via the sprinkler
heads. On this front, the best product available is the new TORO precision
nozzle. It emits 33% less water than standard nozzles and has an 85%
coverage efficiency, as opposed to a 63% coverage efficiency of standard
nozzles. This nozzle can be installed on any existing spray head. Cost
varies with each system, depending on the number of spray heads. This
along with pressure regulation can dramatically reduce landscape water
